SALT LAKE CITY — Four more stories from the lighter side of sports on today’s From Left Field.
1. Yankees' Judge chips tooth in celebration
At 6-foot-7 and 282 pounds, not much is going to stop Yankees rookie slugger Aaron Judge. However, teammate Brett Gardner accidentally found a way to topple the rising star Thursday while the Yankees celebrated Gardner’s walk-off home run against Tampa Bay.
As Gardner reached a mob of teammates at home plate, he tossed his helmet which hit Judge in the mouth and chipped his tooth. Cameras caught the moment and showed a large piece of the tooth break off.
For years, college football fans have grown accustomed to Oregon’s new uniform combinations every week. However, it appears that’s coming to an end.
After his appearance at Pac-12 media days Thursday, the Ducks new head coach Willie Taggart told reporters his team will not have as many jersey combinations every week, according to Shawn Medow, a reporter for Emerald Sports.
“Those uniforms are really nice when you have a really good football team … ain’t gonna have 12," Taggart said. "We’re gonna cut back … we got enough.”
The Ducks went 4-8 last season before parting ways with head coach Mark Helfrich and hiring Taggart, who was the head coach at South Florida.
Oregon linebacker Troy Dye agreed with the decision.
"You've got to earn back the stripes to wear a different uniform every week," he told CSNNW.com.
Taggart added Oregon will still have plenty of combinations this season, just not one every game.
3. Manager, two players get ejected within one at-bat
It’s been a rough season for the Toronto Blue Jays, which have been at the bottom of the American League East all season after back-to-back seasons of reaching the league championship series. On Thursday, some of that frustration seemed to boil over on the field.
With Toronto trailing Oakland 3-1 in the top of the fifth inning, Toronto’s ace pitcher Marcus Stroman began to argue with umpire Will Little over the strike zone. Manager John Gibbons stepped up for his pitcher and was tossed from the game for arguing the strike zone.
Then, three pitches later, Stroman also got tossed after saying something to Little and catcher Russell Martin also got ejected seconds later in one enormous “umpire show” moment. Storman then went after Little in a heated argument.
Stroman took to Twitter afterward to thank Gibbons and Martin for supporting him during the rough outing.
The MLB trade deadline is fast approaching and several trades have already happened as teams in the playoff race try to improve their ball clubs.
On Thursday, the Tampa Bay Rays traded for New York Mets infielder Lucas Duda. After it was announced, Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson did everything to prevent the trade as Duda walked out the door.

Despite the valiant effort, Duda will go to Tampa Bay. He told reporters he was happy with his time in New York and is excited to join the Rays.
