WEST VALLEY CITY — Part of Redwood Road was closed Saturday morning while crews fought a structure fire at the Kim Long Supermarket near 3450 S. Redwood Road.

The road was closed from 3500 South to 3100 South starting at 8:40 a.m., but all lanes were reopened by 10:25 a.m., according to the Utah Department of Transportation.

The fire began in the back of the structure, according to West Valley City Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff Fox.

"They had a cooking appliance in the back room that had some meat on it and caught fire," he said.

There were no injuries in the fire.

Firefighters from West Valley City, Unified Fire Authority, South Salt Lake, Salt Lake City and Murray responded to the scene, Fox said. Two fire hydrants in the area were not working properly, but crews were able to find a third hydrant that was working, Fox said.

"They did a great job and put the fire out quickly," he said. "There was quite a bit of damage to the back of the structure."
