HENRIEVILLE, Garfield County — A Garfield County teen is in juvenile detention and his teenage stepsister in the hospital following a weekend shooting.

Garfield County sheriff's spokeswoman Denise Thatcher confirmed Thursday that there was a shooting inside a Henrieville home Sunday night.

Thatcher said a 15-year-old boy shot a 13-year-old girl with a rifle. The two were the only ones in the house at the time of the shooting, she said.

The St. George News is reporting the boy was 13 and the girl 15, and that the girl was shot in the back following a sibling argument.

Thatcher had very few details Thursday on the incident. She said the girl had undergone surgery at Primary Children's Hospital and was "still alive," but she did not have any other condition update.

It was unknown Thursday where the boy got the gun, what the two were arguing about or potential charges against the boy.

Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
