BRIGHAM CITY — A former Salt Lake County sheriff’s sergeant charged with forcible sodomy will decide next week to schedule or waive a preliminary hearing in the case.

Jamie Widdison, 44, of Eagle Mountain, was charged in connection with the first-degree felony in 1st District Court on March 24. The decision to set a preliminary hearing was moved from June 19 to July 17.

Prosecutors accuse Widdison of forcing the female victim, whose age was not specified but who was "14 years of age or older," to have oral sex with him, according to court documents. Prosecutors alleged the incident occurred between May 2009 and 2013.

Widdison listed his position as a sergeant in the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Sgt. Cammie Skogg said Widdison worked in the Salt Lake County Jail and was placed on administrative leave on Jan. 30 when the sheriff's office was notified by the Perry Police Department about its investigation. Widdison resigned from his position on March 27, three days after charges were filed, Skogg said.

Calls were made to the Box Elder District Attorney’s Office and the Perry Police Department for comment regarding the case on Monday but were not immediately returned.

Randall Cox, one of Widdison's attorneys, declined comment.
