SALT LAKE CITY — Rudy Gobert has been named to the 2016-17 NBA All-Defensive First Team, the league announced Monday.

Gobert won the first-team votes of 97 of the 100 voters who make up the balloting for the annual award, given out since 1968-69. It is Gobert's first time being named to either of the NBA's two all-defensive teams.

Gobert received the second highest number of first-place votes, just behind the Golden State Warriors' Draymond Green, who received 99 first-place votes.

The fourth-year Frenchman had a breakout season for the Jazz, leading the league in blocks (2.6 per game) and ESPN's defensive real plus-minus. The Jazz finished third defensively this season, allowing 102.7 points per 100 possessions. When Gobert was on the floor, the Jazz averaged 100.6 points per 100 possessions, but when he was off the court, the Jazz cratered, allowing 107.5 points per 100 possessions.

Utah's George Hill received one second-team vote.

Gobert also finished as the runner-up for the league's Defensive Player of the Year award, given away at the inaugural NBA Awards Show Monday night. Green won the award with 73 first-place votes, while Gobert finished with 16. San Antonio's Kawhi Leonard had 11.
