VERNAL — A 13-year-old boy who was asked by his aunt to drive an F-150 pickup from Vernal to Fort Duchesne escaped injury after crashing on state Route 40 Sunday, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
About 9:45 a.m., the boy, from Whiterocks, Uintah County, was asked by his aunt to follow her in the pickup to drop it off at her house as she drove another vehicle, according to a statement from the UHP.
"Given the fact the juvenile was unlicensed and inexperienced, he drifted off the roadway to the right. After leaving the roadway, the juvenile overcorrected back to the left, causing the pickup to swerve back onto the roadway and slide off the left side. After going off the left side, it rolled twice and landed on its wheels," the UHP stated.
The boy was wearing a seat belt and was taken to a local hospital as a precaution but did not appear to be injured, according to highway patrol troopers.
The Uintah County Attorney's Office was expected to screen charges against the aunt.
