SALT LAKE CITY — Three children under the age of 5 were taken to Primary Children's Hospital Thursday night after the car they were riding in was hit in an intersection, police said.

Around 9 p.m. on Thursday, a driver with three young children pulled out of a parking lot on Redwood Road at 1000 South, police said. The car stopped in the middle of the traffic lane and was hit broadside by another car.

When emergency crews arrived on scene, they found two children were seriously injured and one child was in critical condition. All three were taken to Primary Children's Hospital and their conditions were upgraded overnight, police said.

Police have not released any details on the cause of the crash.
