KSL wins several Utah SPJ awards

SALT LAKE CITY — KSL Newsradio, KSL TV and KSL.com claimed a total of nearly two dozen awards at the Utah Headliners Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists' annual awards banquet last week.

First place awards included those for Best Radio Newscast and coverage of TV spot news for Shara Park's "Shooting at Mueller Park."

  • Newspaper Division A: Sports non-deadline reporting - "How the U. helps athletes, coaches balance football, family and faith" Josh Furlong, KSL.com

  • Sports: Non-deadline reporting - "Big Coach on Campus," Cleon Wall, KSL Newsradio

  • Radio: Multimedia Journalist - "How the U. helps athletes, coaches balance football, family and faith," Josh Furlong, KSL.com

  • Radio: Best Radio Newscast - Election 2016, KSL Newsradio Team

  • Radio: Minority Issues - "Trump Effect on Refugees and Immigrants," Brianna Bodily, KSL Newsradio

  • Television: Best TV Reporter - Reporting Entry, Peter Rosen, KSL TV

  • Television: Spot News - "Shooting at Mueller Park," Shara Park, KSL TV

  • Television: Personality Profile - "Mourning Together," Mike Anderson, KSL TV

    2nd place awards

    Second-place awards included Best Podcast to KSL.com's Josh Furlong for "Utes to honor late Gaius Vaenuku as part of senior day," and TV and radio spot news awards.

    3rd place awards

    KSL Newsradio and KSL TV teams also captured several third-place awards, including for continuing coverage, spot news, radio documentary.

  • Television: Military - "From the horses mouth," Mike Anderson, KSL TV (tie for 3rd place)

  • Television: Best TV Newscast - KSL 5 News at 6:00, Morgan Wilkins, Dave McCann, Deanie Wimmer, Trista Byerly, KSL TV

    Honorable mention
