TREMONTON, Box Elder County — Three people are dead and another was flown to an Ogden hospital in unknown condition after the SUV they were riding in rolled on a remote stretch of road Monday morning, police said.
Jose Esquivel, 40, of Garland; Adalynn Head, 37, of Tremonton; and Chris Martin, 40, of Willard, were killed in the crash, Box Elder County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Dale Ward said.
A fourth person, Cherie Ann Collyer, 39, of Perry, remains hospitalized at McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden Tuesday afternoon, Ward added. Ward did not know the woman's condition.
Emergency crews responded to a report of a crash at 8300 North and 6800 West at about 2 a.m. The caller had found Collyer sitting in the roadway, who told the caller there were other people inside the car that had crashed.
Ward said a 1997 Nissan Pathfinder carrying the four people was traveling north on 6800 West. The vehicle left the roadway and the driver overcorrected, causing the SUV to roll into a nearby canal.
All four occupants inside the vehicle were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle, Ward said.
Esquivel and Martin were found dead near the vehicle and Head was found dead downstream in the canal about 1 1/4 miles from the crash site, Ward said.
The 39-year-old woman was transported to Bear River Valley Hospital before she was flown to McKay-Dee Hospital.
Ward said the crash remains under investigation but investigators suspect alcohol factored in the crash.
