SALT LAKE CITY — Life on a farm can be peaceful. For 14-year-old Kaytie, it feels like home. After all, she used to live on one.

"I think he likes it," she laughed as she brushed a horse at Serendipity Stables in Salt Lake City.

On Wednesday, she got back in the saddle for the first time in years.

"It's really good," Kaytie said. "I just love horses. I feel really happy and I'm getting my memories back of having the good ol' days."

About eight years ago, Kaytie's home life took a turn.

"My mom and dad kind of went their own directions," she said.

Ever since then, Kaytie's life has lost direction.

"I was with family I've been with most my life and then I walk into foster care," she said. "It makes me sad and mad combined."

Days spent around horses don't happen very often anymore. Kaytie hopes happier days are ahead. She's ready to be adopted.

"I don't know," she said. "I just feel like it would give me a new start."

A new beginning, a chance to feel peace and finally be home.

"I would say 'thanks for taking me.'"
