VERNAL — A Florida man was charged Tuesday with offering to pay adults to have sex with their juvenile children for a weekend.
Richard Terry, 53, was charged Tuesday in 8th District Court with two counts of criminal conspiracy, a first-degree felony.
The charges are the result of a two-year investigation involving undercover officers from the Vernal Police Department, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force of the Utah Attorney General's Office, and authorities in Florida.
Starting in 2015, an officer with the task force began chatting online with Terry. The officer posed as a mother who was "frustrated" with her 5- and 7-year-old daughters, was in debt, and wanted to "go out and party again," according to charging documents.
After several conversations, Terry offered to help the mother with $20,000 by giving her $1,000 a night to have sex with her children, the charges state.
Terry also offered $500 per child in another conversation conducted by an undercover officer to have sex with a woman's 5- and 9-year-old daughters, according to charging documents.
