WEST VALLEY CITY — Three teenagers and an adult were arrested Tuesday in separate incidents as officers responded to an aggravated assault and a drive-by shooting that happened about the same time.

About 3:45 a.m., West Valley police were called to two incidents.

In a Smith's grocery store parking lot, 4643 S. 4000 West, three teens "exchanged looks and words" with an adult sitting in a car, said West Valley police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku.

That led to the three, ages 14, 15 and 17, breaking the driver's side window with an unknown object and striking the driver several times with the same object as he sat in the car, she said.

As the teens attempted to flee by getting in their own vehicle, the assaulted driver used his own car to ram the teens' car to prevent them from leaving, disabling the vehicle, Vainuku said.

The three got out of the car and ran, but they were tracked down a short time later by West Valley police and arrested. The three were booked into juvenile detention for investigation of aggravated assault.

About the same time that was happening, officers responded to the area of 4300 South and 6000 West where multiple shots were fired at a house, Vainuku said. No one was injured in the incident.

Detectives searching the area found a vehicle and driver who matched the description and arrested Hansley Tuitea, 35, of West Valley City. A shotgun was recovered from his vehicle, according to Vainuku.

Investigators believe Tuitea was "acquainted" with someone in the home he shot at, but Vainuku did not have details Tuesday on the nature of that relationship.

Tuitea was charged in both February and March with drug-related crimes in West Valley Justice Court.
