Replacing a child’s bicycle

Weber County Sheriff’s Office

“Sometime overnight (on May 9,) two bikes were stolen from Cari Newby's Washington Terrace residence. One of the bikes was recovered, but the other is still missing. Her 10-year-old son, Gage, was devastated as he loved riding his bike with his brother and sister.

“Deputies Andrew Acosta and Mike Aschinger pooled together their own money to get Gage back out riding with his siblings. Deputy Acosta responded to a local store and purchased a brand new bike for him.

“(On May 10,) Deputy Acosta delivered the new bike to Gage along with a lock to secure all the bikes in the household. The look and reaction from Gage was priceless. The smile on his face and the joy he showed made deputies realize how meaningful this meant to him.

“Thank you deputies Acosta and Aschinger for this selfless act which a young boy will never forget!”

A kind “tire angel”

Marjorie P.

“My old car has had a lot of repairs recently, leaving me a bit short of money. I then learned I needed new tires. I went to my favorite tire store and requested two tires. A man talking to the manager turned to me and said ‘Ma'am, would you like four new tires?’ ‘I can't afford four tires, sir.’ ‘I didn't ask that, would you like four new tires?’ ‘Yes, sir.’ He turned to the manager, ‘Put it on my bill.’ I paid for two tires, he paid for two and that was the last of the major repairs to make my car safe. Thank you, store manager and the tire angel.”

Helping out a stranger in need

Katelynn N.

“A few weeks ago I was on my way to dance class. And an older man was driving his truck and all the sheetrock in the back falls out. He tries to pick it all up as fast as he can. Then a guy stopped at the light hops out of his car and helps him pick it up! And it is moments like these that make you want to be kinder to others.”

Rallying around a classmate

Kim F.

“Fourth-grade students at Heber Valley Elementary are raising money to support their classmate. … These fourth-grade students want to support their classmate who has cystic fibrosis. They are collecting money and distributing purple ribbons.”
