HUNTSVILLE, Weber County — A Huntsville man has been arrested after police say he attacked and stabbed his parents, killing his stepfather.

David Erekson, 42, was booked into the Weber County Jail for investigation of murder Wednesday after police responded to calls of a family fight between him, his mother and his stepfather.

According to the Weber County Sheriff's Office, police were called at 7 p.m. when Gundi McClarin, 72, reported that her son, Erekson, had attacked her and she had fled the home they share.

When deputies arrived at the home, 7409 E. 400 South, they could see through a window to where McClarin's husband, Roger Haven, 69, was on the floor. Haven appeared to have been assaulted and stabbed, according to Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Nate Hutchinson.

Haven was pronounced dead at the scene.

McClarin had also been assaulted, Hutchinson said, suffering "severe facial injuries" that are not believed to be life-threatening. She was transported to an area hospital.

Deputies found Erekson in the backyard of the home. When Erekson fought against officers attempting to handcuff him, deputies used a Taser to take him into custody, Hutchinson said.

No deputies were injured taking Erekson into custody.

Hutchinson said investigators are still working to determine what led up to the attack. Police had responded to the home in the past, he said, but didn't have details about why they had been called.

A search of Utah court records reveals a minor criminal history for Erekson between 1993 and 2005, including misdemeanor convictions of theft, consuming alcohol in an unlawful public place, and intoxication.
