PROVO — BYU basketball announced on Tuesday that Jahshire Hardnett, a 6-foot 170-pound guard, has signed a National Letter of Intent and will play for the Cougars in the 2017-2018 season.

The junior college transfer is a native of Gulfport, Mississippi. Hardnett spent one year redshirting at Fordham College in New York prior to transferring to Chipola College where he then played one year as a redshirt freshman in Marianna, Florida before deciding to transfer to BYU.

At Chipola College, Hardnett was a regular starter and averaged 13 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. Last season he shot 56 percent from the field while he had a 43.9 3-point field goal percentage.

While at Chipola College, Hardnett was named to the All-Conference first team and was named the Freshman of the Year for the Panhandle Conference while leading his team to a 22-8 record.

Hardnett will join BYU as a sophomore with three years of eligibility remaining. He will help the Cougars bolster the guard position joining T.J. Haws and Nick Emery.

On Monday night, Hardnett tweeted saying, “Proud to announce that I have decided to continue my academic/college career at the Brigham Young University!! #COUGARS!!! #BYU”.
