OREM — Utah Valley had won four straight baseball games over Utah, dating back to March 30, 2016.

That streak came to a screeching halt thanks to an offensive fireworks show put on by DaShawn Keirsey Jr. and company. Keirsey had five hits, scored four runs and drove in four runs to help the Utes rout UVU 23-5 on Tuesday night at Brent Brown Ballpark.

"It was a complete effort all the way around," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "We swung the bats extremely well. We pitched very well from the third inning on. Good victory for a Tuesday and we get ready for Washington State."

Utah improved to 18-17 overall on the season while UVU dropped to 13-25.

The Utes scored early and often on Tuesday night. Keirsey got things going with a single up the middle and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Dallas Carroll. Catcher Zack Moeller made it 3-0 wih an RBI double to right field, and Ellis Kelly drove in two runs on a single to right field that made it 6-0.

Keirsey picked up his second hit of the first inning with an RBI single to center that made it 7-0.

UVU got two runs back in the bottom half of the first on a 2-run home run by Jake Berry.

However, Hunter Simmons responded with a solo home run to the deepest part of the ballpark in center field to make it 8-2 for the Utes.

Jake Atkinson got two runs back for UVU on a two-run homer to deep left field and Trevor Peterson had an RBI single to cut the Utah lead to three after two innings.

But the night belonged to the Utah offense. The Utes had eight extra base hits (six doubles and two home runs), pounded out 22 hits and walked 12 times.

"It felt good to continue the offensive hot streak that we are on," Simmons said. "Just putting together good at-bats … we're swinging with intent and we're aggressive and we're confident. That's all you ask for is the confidence right now. Just doing what we do."

Simmons and Carroll combined for 10 RBIs and five hits. Outfielder Dominic Foscalina had three hits and scored four runs in the blowout win.

Utah scored in all but one inning with a run in the second, two in the third, four in the fourth, three in the sixth, four in the seventh and then a run in both the eighth and ninth innings.

"When you play these guys, they're going to bring it," Simmons said. "You can't play half, 50 percent. You have to go 100 percent. To beat them like that was good for our self-esteem against them. Now, we just got to do it to other teams, too."

Utah hosts Pac-12 opponent Washington State in a three-game series at Smith's Ballpark beginning on Thursday at 11:30 a.m. MDT.

Utah Valley goes on the road for a three-game series against Northern Colorado beginning Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. MDT.
