The internet has made researching and purchasing products online the new normal.

In fact, many retailers are becoming more successful and selling more products as a result of the wider reach they have with online marketing and the convenience of internet purchasing.

Buying a car is no different, and many innovations will make the process easier than ever in the future. These trends will transform buying a car sometime down the road.

The ride-sharing revolution

Uber and Lyft have changed how people think about getting from place to place. Instead of owning a car and being responsible for the maintenance and other costs, people can now pay each time they need a vehicle.

This same principle could be applied to how people rent and rent to buy cars in the future. In the future, people could pay a fee to have their choice of cars to rent in a garage.

With all these options, car dealerships will be diversifying the options they provide to customers both online and in the real world.

The role of the internet

In the days before personal computers and widespread use of the internet, people who wanted to buy cars walked around car lots and went to the dealership to hear about the features of vehicles.

Now, people do their research before stepping foot on the lot, which allows them to find car options they hadn't thought of before and to narrow their choices.

In fact, about 90 percent of consumers use the internet to research vehicles before purchase, said Winston Bennion, General Manager of Nissan Salt Lake. “I think this number will stay high and eventually almost every consumer will use the internet for some part of the purchase process. The biggest change that we will see moving forward is how the purchase experience will be moved online."

In person

With virtual tours and testing of products online becoming more common, you might think the whole process of buying a car could slip out of the real world and into the virtual for good.

However, even though many customers research makes, models, and reviews and ratings practically down to the specific vehicle itself, there's nothing like seeing a car in person to seal the deal. There’s something about making sure it’s as good as it sounds.

To stay ahead of the curve, Ken Garff Nissan makes car buying so much easier. No more shuffling back and forth between sales people. No more waiting around for hours, and no more stress. You’ll work with one person from start to finish, they give you a great price up front, and once you’re ready to buy a car they’ll be ready to hand over the keys and get you home as quickly as possible.

“Just car-buying the way it should be," said Bennion.
