Salt Lake CC falls to defending champs in NJCAA women's basketball semifinals

LUBBOCK, Texas — Salt Lake Community College’s run at its first-ever junior college women’s basketball national championship ended Friday.

Taylor Emery had 22 points and four steals, and Shayla Bennett supplied 14 points off the bench to lead defending national champion Gulf Coast State to an 80-66 win over the Bruins in the semifinals of the National Junior College Athletic Association semifinals in Lubbock, Texas.

Sica Cuzic led the Bruins with 20 points, and Tia Hay added 14 points and three assists for SLCC. Annie Brady had 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Bruins.

Gulf Coast State will play Trinity Valley in Saturday’s title game. The Bruins will face Shelton State at 3:30 p.m. MDT in a consolation final.
