SALT LAKE CITY — Fourth-ranked Utah gymnastics is heading to the Fayetteville Regional as the top seed to begin its quest for a championship.

The team, which has never missed an NCAA Championship, learned its seeding and destination during the NCAA.com selection show Monday afternoon. Joining Utah, in order of seed, are No. 9 Denver, No. 16 California, Auburn, Arkansas and Central Michigan.

The Red Rocks won the Pac-12 Championship Saturday, posting a season-high score to boost its national ranking one spot to No. 4. They have already competed against Denver and California in the regular season, defeating both.

Utah, which is one of 36 teams in the postseason, will compete in nationals if it’s one of the top two teams in its region. A total of six regions — Seattle, Washington; Gainesville, Florida.; Fayetteville, Arkansas; Champaign, Illinois; Lincoln, Nebraska; Morgantown, West Virginia — consist of six teams each and will be narrowed to 12 teams to compete in St. Louis, Missouri April 14. From there, the top six will compete in the Super Six on April 15 to decide the national champion.

The meet is scheduled to air on ESPNU.
