SALT LAKE CITY — It’s Friday and the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament, which means you don’t need to be working too hard (don’t worry, we’ve checked with your boss; it’s OK). So to add some levity to your day, it’s time to look at the 32 teams that moved on from Wednesday’s first round of the “Best City” tournament.

There were quite a few upsets on the first day, including the rare 16-seed win over the No. 1 seed (we’re looking at you Toquerville!). Also, three of the 14-seeded cities claimed a victory — Oakley with 68 percent, Panguitch with 72 percent and Mona with 60 percent. Two cities tied for the biggest win margin — Kanab and Moab — with 88 percent of the vote. Will they make it all the way to the championship game or will some Cinderella city come away with an upset?

As a reminder, the voting will go throughout the day and will be officially called at midnight (votes after midnight will not count). Cities will advance in similar fashion to that of the NCAA Tournament, with 16 cities advancing to the next round — the Sweet 16. The voting will resume for the Sweet 16 teams on Wednesday, with the Elite 8 on Friday, March 24. The Final Four will be held Wednesday, March 29 and the championship round on Friday, March 31.

Remember, there are no formal guidelines on how you vote, so don’t over-complicate the matter. Maybe the city’s name speaks to you or you know someone that lives in that city. Whatever the reason, vote and check back to see how your favorite city does.
