SALT LAKE CITY — Utah State University Eastern has named Chelsey Warburton its new athletic director, making her the first female collegiate athletic director in the state of Utah. She will be taking over for Dave Paur, who is retiring after more than 25 years with Utah State Eastern.

“I played with Paur, and I coached with Paur, and I’m sad that he will be leaving,” said Warburton. “I have big shoes to fill, but I am excited and happy for the opportunity.”

Warburton will take on her new role starting June 1. She is currently the head women’s basketball coach and will continue in that capacity while serving her new role.

“Chelsey Warburton brings an amazing vision and a wealth of experience to the athletic director position,” USU Eastern Vice Chancellor Greg Dart said. “We are confident that she can help carry forward the vision for athletics.”

Prior to taking the head coaching role, Warburton was the assistant women’s basketball coach and head volleyball coach at Utah State Eastern. However, she started her collegiate career as a player, spending one season at College of Eastern Utah before transferring to play for Weber State. She helped lead Weber State to its best season in school history and holds the single-game record for 3-pointers made in a game, as well as the Weber State and Big Sky Conference single-season records for 3-point field goals made. After her time at Weber State, she headed overseas to play professional basketball in Amsterdam.

“I am excited to help move forward the vision of excellence,” said Warburton. “We have all the pieces to take the department to the next level, for great coaches, great support staff and amazing student-athletes.”

Utah State Eastern is focused on the complete development of student-athletes. Under a new vision, the institution has added men’s and women’s soccer, softball, rodeo and a spirit squad. The school also signed an exclusive deal with Under Armour apparel, athletic fundraising has reached new heights and a rebranding effort has been introduced. In total, Utah State Eastern has about 230 student- athletes.
