OGDEN — The 5A state semifinals took place Friday afternoon at the Dee Events Center at Weber state.

Bingham 54 - Pleasant Grove 44

The Bingham Miners will be back in the championship game. In a game featuring a battle of two of the best centers in Utah high school basketball, Bingham's center, 6-foot-11 Branden Carlson, outplayed Pleasant Grove's 7-foot-3 Matthew Van Komen.

The first three quarters were tense and close throughout. In the first half, matching blocks by van Komen and Carlsen on each other were the highlights.

But by the end of the third quarter, Keanu Akina sank a three to make it 28-28. But in the fourth, Bingham went on a 14-2 run to pull away and book their place in the 5A finals for a second consecutive season.

Lone Peak 88 - Copper Hills 73

Lone Peak got it done with offense.

With 88 points total, the Knights outscored Copper Hills with a potent scoring display. That was especially true in the second half, when they scored 55 points.

Steven Ashworth led Lone Peak with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. Nate Harkness and Max McGrath both added 21 points each.

Stockton Shorts led Copper Hills with 28 points.

Lone Peak will play Bingham for the 5A state championship at 12 p.m. Saturday at the Dee Events Center at Weber State University.
