SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office on Friday charged a 17-year-old boy with murder, directly filing his charge in adult court.

Isaac Nacdaniel Patton, of Salt Lake City, is charged in 3rd District Court with murder and aggravated robbery, first-degree felonies; three counts of discharge of a firearm, a second-degree felony; and possession of a firearm by a restricted person, a third-degree felony.

On Feb. 16, Tristen Mogadam, 18, was shot and killed outside his Magna residence, 3231 S. Julia Lane (8820 West), shortly before 11 p.m.

Patton had arranged to buy marijuana from Mogadam and his brother that night, according to charging documents. Patton arrived at Mogadam's house with three others, and met him at the edge of the driveway to make the transaction.

After Patton was given his drugs, Patton pulled out a gun and asked, "What else you got?" according to charging documents.

Mogadam then pushed Patton and began running toward his house. A male standing next to Patton said, "Blast him," the charges state.

Mogadam's 16-year-old brother, who was nearby, told police he heard three gunshots as they ran back into the house. When they got inside, Tristen Mogadam collapsed on the floor. An autopsy determined Mogadam was shot once in the back, and the bullet hit his heart and exited through his chest, the charges state.

Police found four shell casings in the road and a bullet hole in the front door of the residence.

When questioned by police, Patton said he was a gang member and believed Mogadam was in a rival gang, the charges state.

Five of the six charges against Patton were filed with gang enhancements, meaning Patton is subject to enhanced penalties if convicted.

Bail was set at $1 million.
