TREMONTON — In response to the severe flooding in Box Elder County, the Utah National Guard has been called upon to help in the efforts.

Utah Gov. Gary Herbert announced Wednesday that the Utah National Guard would be activated to help in Box Elder County’s flood efforts, particularly that of helping in the sand-bagging operations to help keep properties in the area from flooding.

Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox, in addition to several state and local officials, will be touring the area Wednesday to assess the damage. Additionally, the American Red Cross will be working with the Multi-Agency Resource Center on Wednesday to provide assistance to individuals affected by the flooding.

The volunteer agency will be there to help flood victims at the Aldersgate United Methodist Church at 235 E. 850 South in Brigham City from 7:30-9 p.m.

“Trained caseworkers will be available at the MARC to help people create personal recovery plans, navigate paperwork and locate assistance for their specific disaster-caused needs,” a Facebook post reads on the Box Elder County Emergency Management page.

Last week, rain and melting snow flooded several communities in Box Elder County, leaving many with flooded homes and properties. Some homes in the Tremonton area were without power Sunday as a result of the flooding.
