TIMBER LAKES, Wasatch County — Police have identified a 12-year-old boy who was killed in a crash while snowmobiling with family Monday afternoon.

Utah State Parks Lt. Eric Stucki said Jaxon Lewis, of Salt Lake County, was riding snowmobiles with his family in the Mill Hollow Reservoir area just after noon when his snowmobile was struck in a broadside collision.

Stucki said it appeared the boy was traveling across a ridge line as an adult family member was heading perpendicular up the hillside. The other rider was unaware of Lewis’s location before they collided.

Lewis was wearing a helmet but suffered “significant” head trauma. Emergency crews received a report at 12:22 p.m. of the crash and family members and other snowmobilers helped administer CPR before crews arrived, Stucki said.

Lewis was then transported via medical helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital where he died shortly after.

"It's just one of those horrible, horrible accidents that we hate to hear about," Stucki said Monday.
