UPD officer remembered as brave, funny and kind
Friends, fellow officers and family who eulogized Unified police officer Jon Richey on Saturday described him as a "selfless hero," "mentor," and a beloved father, brother, friend and spouse.
Richey, 52, died at his home on Feb. 11, but the cause of his death remains under investigation. Initial reports said there was no indication of foul play.
Judge rules against man whose dog was shot and killed by police
A federal judge has ruled against a man who claimed his constitutional rights were violated when his dog was shot and killed by police during a search for a missing toddler. U.S.
District Court Judge Robert Shelby said in the ruling issued Friday that Sean Kendall failed to establish either an unconstitutional search or seizure in the shooting death of his dog, Geist, in 2014.
GOP legislative leaders are pushing to pass a package of tax reforms in the final weeks of the session that include restoring the full sales tax on food, phasing out income tax exemptions for more Utahns, and raising gas taxes.
The newly unveiled proposal also would lower the state's 4.7 percent sales and 5 percent income tax rates by around a half percent each.
Residents and emergency crews in Tremonton spent much of Sunday filling sandbags to keep rising water away from homes. Flooding caused by melting snow and heavy runoff affected some residences in the area of 1650 W. 125 North. There are some reports of water getting into homes. A landslide also caused the indefinite closure of state Route 30 near the Bear River.
Homeland Security arrests in Park City prompt message from sheriff
Four people were arrested in Park City over the weekend by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Enforcement and Removal Operations division, according to the Summit County Sheriff's Office.
But Sheriff Justin Martinez issued a statement Sunday morning saying he was told this was not a "sweep" or roundup of people in the country illegally.
