HOOPVILLE — Jimmer Fredette’s career was supposed to be over after falling out of favor with four NBA teams.

Not so fast, he said this weekend.

Fredette’s most recent accolades, as well as a massive upset in local college lacrosse and a game-ending brawl in Division III basketball, are part of this weekend’s Great Clips of the Week.

JimmerMania hits China

Former BYU star Jimmer Fredette is still getting buckets in China.

Fredette, who signed with Yao Ming’s Shanghai Sharks after his four-team NBA career, scored 73 points Sunday night in the Sharks’ double-overtime loss to the Zhejiang Guangsha Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association.

The 27-year-old Fredette’s 73 is the fourth-highest single-game scoring total in CBA history, trailing Errick McCollum (82), Quincy Douby (745) and Bobby Brown (74). Naturally, it’s a career-high for Fredette at any level, who scored 52 points against New Mexico in the Mountain West tournament. Fredette’s older brother TJ claims the shooter has never topped 60 points, a high that came during an AAU basketball game as a teenager.

Fredette and the third-seeded Sharks open the CBA playoffs Feb. 24 against Shenzhen.

Utah lacrosse stuns defending national champions

Former North Carolina assistant Brian Holman’s first season in charge of the Utah lacrosse program in the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association is off to a good start.

The Utes rallied from an early deficit to stun defending MCLA champions and top-ranked Chapman 12-9 on the road to open the 2017 season. Here are highlights from the game.

Jake Stout had three goals and an assist to lead Utah, which also defeated Washington 18-10 in Los Angeles over the weekend.

Utah continues its season-opening trip against UNLV on President’s Day.

Playing not-so-nice

Two Division III basketball players were arrested after coming to blows in a game in New Hampshire.

Daniel Webster College guard Marquise Caudill was charged with second-degree assault, criminal threatening and disorderly conduct after allegedly attacking a player from Southern Vermont.

The altercation, which reportedly required dozens of police officers to break up, occurred during Daniel Webster’s final basketball game and ended in a forfeit in favor of Southern Vermont.
