RICHFIELD — Danielle Brinkerhoff struggled with foul trouble for most of the second half of Saturday’s Class 1A girls basketball championship game.
She wasn’t going to let that take her off the floor, though.
Brinkerhoff scored 15 points to lift Bryce Valley (23-4) to its first state title in school history with a 37-36 overtime win over Tabiona in the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield.
“I can’t believe it. I’m so happy,” said Brinkerhoff, whose team ended the season with 12-straight wins. “We’ve worked so hard for this the past four years. I was not going to let us give up or let us lose.”
Brinkerhoff hit a mid-range jumper with 16 seconds left to force overtime with Bryce Valley’s 9-1 run to end regulation.
Karleen Roundy scored 11 points for Bryce Valley, including her third 3-pointer on a corner trey with 3:10 left in overtime to give the Mustangs a 34-33 lead they would never relinquish.
