HEBER CITY, Utah (AP) — The Utah Highway Patrol says driver impairment may have been a factor in a head-on crash that killed three people and injured two others on Highway 40 near Heber earlier this week.
The victims included 27-year-old Miguel Huitron of Salt Lake City. He was driving an eastbound Honda Civic that the patrol says crossed the center line and crashed into a westbound Kia Rio at about 7:15 a.m. Tuesday.
The patrol confirmed Wednesday it is investigating whether Huitron was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol at the time of the crash. Investigators say excessive speed also may have played a role in the crash.
Also killed were the driver of the Kia, 29-year-old Christina Macinauskas, and a backseat passenger in Huitron's car, 27-year-old Cindy Cruz of West Jordan.
