NORTH SALT LAKE — Two people were treated for minor injuries after a train collided with a semitruck Saturday morning, authorities said.

The collision happened at about 1050 W. 1100 North just before 10 a.m., according to South Davis Metro Fire Chief Jeff Bassett. The agency tweeted that two people were being treated for minor injuries after passengers were escorted back to the Woods Cross FrontRunner Station.

Bassett said the train was traveling southbound when it struck the semitruck traveling eastbound on 1100 North. The truck was hauling two trailers.

"It was a double-trailer and the train impacted at the first trailer right behind the semitruck," Bassett said. "The semi itself is undamaged. (The damage) is all to the trailer."

Bassett said there were 82 passengers on the train at the time of the collision.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, which is being led by UTA.

However, Bassett said investigators didn't believe the truck was stuck on the tracks. It was unclear if the railroad crossing arms were down before or after the truck began crossing the tracks or if the railroad crossing arms and signals were properly functioning.

"We're not really sure what took place at the crossing intersection," he said.

UTA officials created a bus bridge between the North Temple and Woods Cross stations. That lasted until about 2:35 p.m. when it was canceled, but UTA officials said delays were expected as trains returned to regular schedule.

1100 North was closed for several hours as crews cleaned up the scene, but reopened at around 3:50 p.m.

More information will be added as soon as it is made available.
