GRAND COUNTY — A 27-year-old man is dead after being ejected from the semitruck he was driving on state Route 191 Wednesday night, police said.

Emergency crews responded to a report of the crash near milepost 132, which is just north of Arches National Park, according to Utah Highway Patrol officials.

Police said the man was driving a truck traveling in southbound lane and was unable to negotiate a curve in the road and drifted off the right shoulder and into a rock wall in the mountain side.

The man was ejected through the windshield and pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not immediately released.

The crash remains under investigation, but police said they believe speed may be a factor in the crash. Witnesses told police that the truck was speeding before the crash.

Police added it didn’t appear that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

The truck was carrying onions and headed to New Mexico.
