PROVO — How do you celebrate a legend?
A lot of people will try Jan. 6.
A public memorial service for legendary BYU football coach LaVell Edwards will be held Friday, Jan. 6 at 6 p.m. MT, the BYU athletic department announced after the 86-year-old coach died Thursday.
The service will take place at the Utah Valley Convention Center, 220 W. Center Street in Provo.
Free public parking is available directly behind the center, as well as opposite the center at Freedom Boulevard and 100 North. The center is located six blocks north of the Provo Central FrontRunner station, with multiple bus lines to the property for those wishing to use public transportation.
Edwards is survived by his wife Patti, three children, as well as several close friends and former players and coaches who will hold a private funeral service for the man Saturday, Jan. 7before his burial.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Edwards’ honor to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Utah County.
