SANDY — Police are investigating after a man was found dead in a car.

Sandy Police Lt. Ronni Stevenson said an officer spotted the man's car about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday on the side of the road near 9800 South and Monroe Street.

Seeing the man inside, the officer broke the window in an attempt to offer help, but found he was already deceased.

There was no immediate evidence about what caused the man's death, Stevenson said.

Police do not believe the death is suspicious, though they are still investigating the possibility, Stevenson said.

"There's nothing to indicate there was foul play," Stevenson said.

Sandy Police Sgt. Heather Blanco said the man, in his 50s, was due at work at 7 a.m. at the new Hale Centre Theatre that's under construction. It's possible it was around that time that he arrived in the area in his car, according to Blanco.

"It sounds like he may have had some medical issues that possibly went untreated," she said.

Cold temperatures are also being looked at as a possible factor.

The man's name was not released Tuesday evening as family members were still being contacted. His body was taken to the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
