Due to impasse in negotiations with DISH Network, KSL has now gone dark on DISH Network. After months of negotiation, we failed to reach an agreement. We have offered the same fair market rates that Dish already pays other local stations in the Salt Lake DMA and DISH has refused our repeated offers.
This means you are missing the top rated newscasts on KSL and favorite NBC programming. With the highly anticipated NFL playoffs just around the corner, we are hoping for a quick resolution.
Our goal was to reach an agreement so we can continue to serve our local communities, and worked diligently to come to an agreement before a blackout occurred. We have been successful in these negotiations with every one of our other cable and satellite distributors, but DISH refuses to reach an agreement based on fair-market value.

What is retransmission?
From the FCC: The Communications Act requires that a television station give its consent to a cable system or other multichannel video programming distributor (MVPD) to carry its broadcast signal.
Television stations and cable systems, as well as satellite carriers, negotiate for this “retransmission consent” and money or other consideration is generally exchanged between the parties in these private negotiations. If the parties do not produce an agreement in time, they may decide to extend the existing agreement, which means they would continue to carry the stations during their negotiations. If they do not reach an agreement, then the cable system or other MVPD must stop offering the stations to their subscribers.
