KAMAS — The mayor of Kamas suffered a heart attack Monday, hospitalizing him in critical condition and causing him to crash a school bus into a power pole, police said.

Lewis Marchant was westbound on state Route 150 between 100 East and Main Street when his heart attack happened just before 8 a.m., the Utah Highway Patrol reported. The bus then swerved to the right and struck a power pole.

Marchant was taken by ambulance to Park City Medical Center in critical condition. He was later flown by medical helicopter to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray. Police didn't have an update on his condition Monday evening.

There were no passengers on the South Summit School District bus at the time, according to the UHP.
