SOUTH SALT LAKE — A 21-year-old woman is in critical condition after a shooting Friday afternoon, police said.

Police responded to a report of a possible shooting involving a woman at an apartment complex located near 500 E. Stanley Ave. at approximately 4 p.m., according to South Salt Lake police public information officer Gary Keller.

However, responding officers were unable to locate a victim. Keller said officers were gathering information regarding a silver vehicle that was seen leaving the area roughly the same time that the report came in when they received a call from a local hospital that the woman arrived at the hospital with a bullet wound to her upper torso.

Keller said investigators believe the woman that was admitted at the hospital was the same potential victim in the shooting investigation.

Though the woman was listed in critical condition, Keller said her injuries were not considered life-threatening. The woman’s name was not immediately released.

Keller said a man was in custody in relation to the case, but police were still investigating the shooting and the involvement of the man.

“(The investigation) is ongoing and we’re trying to determine what is going on,” Keller said.
