KANAB — The body of an overdue deer hunter was found Tuesday in Kane County.
Kane County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Alan Alldredge said it appears that Ryan Shakespear, 42, of Cedar City, slipped off a cliff and fell approximately 150 feet to his death.
Shakespear was reported missing about 1:15 a.m. Tuesday when he failed to return to his family cabin on time from deer hunting near Wahweap Wash, Alldredge said. His family last heard from him about 6:30 p.m. Monday. They started to worry after he failed to return, in part because of the heavy rain in the area that night.
As a search and rescue team was still en route to the area, officials were notified that a family member had found Shakespear's body, according to the sheriff's office.
Shakespear worked for the Bureau of Land Management in Cedar City.
