SPANISH FORK — An American Fork man was killed Tuesday after police say his truck drifted into oncoming traffic in Spanish Fork Canyon and was struck by a semitrailer hauling drywall.

Court Anderson, 77, was driving a Chevy pickup on U.S. 6, a couple miles up from the mouth of the canyon, around 10:30 a.m. when he crossed the double yellow line for an unknown reason, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said.

The semitrailer driver saw the pickup and attempted to get as far to the right side of his lane as he could and reduce his speed, but the left corner of his vehicle smashed into the left corner of the pickup, Royce said.

Anderson was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the semitrailer was not injured.

The impact from the collision sparked a small fire on the tarp covering the drywall that was quickly extinguished.
