WASHINGTON COUNTY — A 65-year-old man is dead following an ATV accident, police said on Saturday night.

At around 6:30 p.m., crews were dispatched to respond to a call of an accident in a remote area near Kolob Mountain. Two individuals were riding a 2011 Honda TRX 500 ATV when the crash occurred.

Police said the passenger was not seriously hurt, but the driver of the ATV, a 65-year-old man, was unconscious but breathing. Life Flight was sent out because of the remote location. When crews arrived, they pronounced him dead from his injuries.

The identity of the victim was not released. Police said the victim is a resident of Cedar City and was out hunting with his family. It is still unconfirmed whether or not the two individuals were wearing helmets, police said.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
