SOUTH SALT LAKE — A South Salt Lake woman was charged Tuesday for allegedly setting a home on fire following an argument with her boyfriend about breaking up.

Diamond Sullivan, 36, is charged in 3rd District Court with aggravated arson, a first-degree felony, in connection with the Oct. 12 fire at 3596 S. 300 East.

The fire destroyed the interior of the home, causing $100,000 in damage, according to the South Salt Lake Fire Department.

Four others were inside the home when Sullivan allegedly set it on fire, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report. Nobody was injured.

Sullivan and her boyfriend "were in the process of breaking up," court documents say.

"(The boyfriend) left their home to remove himself from the argument" over the breakup, charges state. "When he returned a short time later, the house was on fire."

The couple had been renting a room in the home from another man. When that man alerted Sullivan to the fire, she told him, "I know. I started it," charging documents state.

Charges also say Sullivan admitted to fire investigators that she was responsible.

"She was upset, so she poured butane all over a pile of clothes and lit it on fire," court documents say.

Investigators concluded that the fire originated from the room where Sullivan and her boyfriend were staying.

Sullivan was arrested shortly after the fire, but she is currently out of custody. A warrant for her arrest was issued Tuesday.

Sullivan's prior criminal history in Utah is limited to minor offenses, according to court records.
