AMERICAN FORK — The body of a man found dead in American Fork Canyon on Thursday has been identified as a hiker from Cedar Hills who went missing the day before.
Arthur Wayne Wiseman, 60, left home for a short hike about 5:15 p.m. Wednesday and didn't return, Utah County Sheriff's Sgt. Spencer Cannon said. Wiseman was expected back before dark.
Wiseman's family searched the Mineral Basin area for several hours Wednesday night but didn't locate Wiseman or his truck, Cannon said. Wiseman was reported missing to police about 3 a.m.
Deputies received a call shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday from a hiker who used an emergency call box at Tibble Fork Reservoir to report he had found a man dead on a trail near the Silver Lake Flat Road.
Police identified the deceased hiker as Wiseman. Cannon said the death does not appear suspicious, and Wiseman hadn't suffered any obvious injury or trauma. It appeared Wiseman had stopped along the trail, including removing his glasses and gloves.
Wiseman's body was transported to the medical examiner's office to determine his cause of death.
