SPRINGVILLE — The Springville Red Devils continue their impressive winning streak, improving to 7-0 after rolling Wasatch 48-7 Friday night.

Springville looked sharp all night with a suffocating defense and big plays on offense.

The Red Devils had a lot of contributions from many players. Of the seven touchdowns, only Brennen Rymer and Payton Kelepolo has multiple scores. While defensively, the Red Devils shut down the run and gave Wasatch no time to throw the ball.

Springville coach Willy Child was pleased with his team’s performance.

“I thought it was one of our most consistent games,” he said. “Offensively, defensively and on special teams, we got it clicking early. It was one of the better teams we played this year.”

At 7-0, there’s a real possibility of Springville doing something real special by going undefeated in the regular season. Child isn’t concerned about a 9-0 record, as much as he is putting his team in a position to win.

“We don’t worry too much about it. Our goal is to win region and get two home games (in the playoffs). That was our goal last year," he said. "We try to take it one game at a time and be ready for Payson next week.”

On Friday, the first score of the game came when Wasatch punter Nash Jones ran a fake punt but was tackled short of the first down. Springville came back on the next play with Bennett Hullinger taking a slant route 48 yards. After a face-masking call on Wasatch on the play, the Red Devils found themselves on the 5-yard line. The second play of the game was a pitch to Kelepolo, who walked untouched into the end zone.

Later in the first quarter, a snap soared over Jones’ head on a punt play and Springville tackled him deep in Wasatch territory, and two plays later Jackson Murphy rushed up the middle for a 15-yard touchdown.

The next Springville drive ended in 3-yard pitch play to Kelepolo.

Wasatch caught a break late in the second quarter when a tipped pass fell into the hands of Joe Williams, giving Wasatch great field possession. On third-and-1, Ritchie Heywood punched it in, giving Wasatch a breath of fresh air and setting the score at 21-7.

The break was short-lived, however. Springville came back strong on the next drive, going 90 yards in three plays, capped by a 65-yard touchdown pass from Jantsen Thorpe to Rymer with less than a minute left.

The first play of the ensuing Wasatch drive started with a bad snap recovered by Springville. Wasatch forced a fourth down, but on fourth-and-1, Thorpe kept the ball on a sneak and found the end zone.

At halftime the score was 35-7, and it didn’t take long for Springville to score again. The Red Devils got the ball to start the second half and the first drive ended in a 65-yard touchdown run by Cole Bowers. The last score of the game came as time expired in the third quarter, when Rymer caught a 3-yard slant route for a touchdown.

Springville (7-0) will host Payson (1-7) next week, while Wasatch (4-3) will host Spanish Fork (1-5).
