SALT LAKE CITY — Here's three more stories from the world of sports in this week’s From Left Field.

1. Man sinks $100 putt after heckling European team

Typically when a professional golfer turns the tables on a heckler, the result is disastrous for the fan. However, that wasn’t the case Thursday for a North Dakota man heckling the European team during a practice round at the Ryder Cup.

According to Brian Murphy of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the man, David Johnson, had been heckling the European team when he was called out onto the green by Henrik Stenson.

In a video posted by Rory McIlroy, Johnson is seen setting up for a 12-foot putt while Justin Rose places a $100 bill next to the ball. After calming down, Johnson sinks the putt as the crowd roars and the European team congratulates him on the putt.

“I razzed them a little bit and they heard me, which is insane and then they brought me out, which is even more insane,” Johnson told reporters, regarding what led to the challenge. “I haven’t fully realized what just happened, but overall that was a pretty cool experience. I’ll go ahead and do that again, if I could.”

He then showed his $100 prize — albeit wishing that Rose could have signed the bill.

2. Red Sox honor Ortiz with large outline in the outfield

David Ortiz’s retirement tour has included plenty of things, including an entire corn maze etched in his likeness. Now the designated hitter, heading into his final series of the regular season, is getting an outfield with his image on it.

As the Boston Red Sox prepare for their final series of the regular season, the grounds crew honored the retiring Red Sox legend with a giant outline of him in the outfield of Fenway Park.

The outline, seen above, features his signature pose to the sky — also depicted in a Lego gift earlier this year.

Ortiz received a painting and notes from the New York Yankees in his final game at Yankee Stadium Thursday. His final regular season series will be at Fenway against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Red Sox clinched the American League East title on Wednesday.

3. Tennis star pauses match to allow mother to find lost child

Making a commotion before a tennis serve is often frowned upon, however, tennis star Rafael Nadal made an exception for that during an exhibition match against John McEnroe in Spain.

A video shows Nadal getting ready to serve, but pausing when he hears a mother crying out trying to find her missing child at the stadium.

The pause allowed fans to help the mother find her missing child and the two were reconnected after about 30 seconds before the crowd erupted in applause.
