PROVO — Police are still looking for a man suspected of groping several women along the Provo trail this week.
Even though these incidents are isolated, police say people should take precautions.
“Sometimes we are surprised what we stumble across because a lot of people don't expect it,” said Provo Police Sgt. Sean Ellefsen.
Ellefsen is one of the many officers who at times will patrol the trail system in Provo that runs from Utah Lake to Provo Canyon. Often citizens will stop to inform them about problems they've encountered.
After news of Monday morning's three incidents along the Provo River trail near 3700 North University Avenue, where women reported a man accosted them, police have been looking for a suspect. A woman who says she was attacked, posted a photo of the man on Facebook.
“If anyone was in the area either as a victim or saw anything even if they weren't in that area at the time, please give us a call. We would appreciate all the information we can get so we can catch this guy and hold him accountable for his actions,” said Provo Police Lt. Brandon Post.
While police are again cautioning people to be careful while enjoying the trails, they don't want people to be scared. Officers say to not be distracted by headphones, walk with a partner and report anything suspicious you may encounter.
“I use it frequently. There are thousands of people who use it frequently. It is one of those things I don't think people should be afraid of using but be aware of your surroundings,” Post said.
Police say it's very unfortunate that people have to worry about becoming a victim, but hope with the public's help they can make an arrest in this case.
