WOODS CROSS — The day she was scheduled to say “I do,” Landers Judd experienced another life-changing event: The unexpected death of her mother.

It was Sept. 13, and Judd was preparing to marry her sweetheart, Kevin Dimond.

“We had just arrived at the wedding venue and were about to put our dresses on when she collapsed and was taken by ambulance to the hospital,” Judd told KSL.com in an email.

Tragically, Tawnya Judd died of a heart attack, according to Landers Judd.

For now, the wedding is on hold, as Landers Judd is helping handle the details of her mother’s estate.

Unfortunately, the couple had already paid for the venue and was unable to get a refund, since the food was prepared and the employees had been paid. The venue owners did offer their other venue for the ceremony free of charge if they choose to get married there, but Dimond and Judd would still need to pay for food, a reception, tuxedos and more.

“The venue owners were very helpful with handling the situation in our absence, and they worked with our officiator (Larry Mota) to let our guests know that there was a medical emergency and that the wedding would be postponed,” Kevin Dimond told KSL.com. “Later that evening when we returned from the hospital, the owners expressed their deepest sympathy for what happened and hugged and cried with us. They were very genuine in their caring for us and our situation.”

Dimond chose not to disclose the name of the venue.

The couple paid for the majority of their wedding themselves, Dimond said.

Dimond’s sister-in-law, Liz Dimond, started a GoFundMe account* to raise money for the couple so they could still have the wedding they wanted, Landers Judd said. As of Tuesday afternoon, the GoFundMe account had raised more than $400.

Landers Judd said her family is hanging in there and that they have become even closer over the last couple of weeks.

“Just taking it day by day and trying to wrap our heads around what happened,” she said. “It is still a shock and has been hard.”
