Members of the Mountain West Conference had a rough week with only two teams posting wins. One of those wins came from the Air Force Falcons, who beat fellow MWC member Utah State, and the other came from Boise State.
The first game of the week featured Wyoming visiting Eastern Michigan. Wyoming was favored, but after the Cowboys jumped out to a 17-3 lead, Eastern Michigan scored 17 unanswered points and won on a late touchdown. Fans are torn on the results.
Nevada traveled to Purdue, and as expected, the Wolf Pack lost. Nevada started strong, racing out to a 14-3 lead, but Purdue rallied to score 21 unanswered points to win 24-14.
San Jose State traveled to Iowa State and got dismantled in a game that was never close. At one point, Iowa State scored 23 unanswered points en route to the 44-10 win. San Jose State had four turnovers.
Colorado State was also on the road this week at Minnesota. The Gophers were heavily favored, but Colorado State kept it competitive, only losing by a touchdown 31-24.
The road was kinder to the Boise State Broncos, who entered Oregon State as the heavy favorite and won 38-24.
Fresno State hosted two-touchdown favorite Tulsa. Fresno State shocked everyone by jumping up 31-0 on the Golden Hurricane. After that, it was all Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane came storming back and forced double-overtime before winning 48-41.
UNLV hosted Idaho and, in a rare occurrence, was favored. UNLV disappointed by never putting Idaho away, allowing the Vandals to stick around and force overtime where Idaho won on a touchdown 33-30.
Air Force and Utah State opened Mountain West play in Logan. Utah State played well enough to win, but turnovers and a controversial call that took away a touchdown, giving Air Force the 27-20 win.
With Mountain West play underway, games will become more important for each team. While this week was a bad week for the MWC, each team looks to get back on the winning side of the ledger next week.
