PROVIDENCE, Cache County — A 3-month-old boy died Friday from injuries sustained in a car crash Thursday and his 26-year-old mother remains in critical condition at an Ogden hospital, police said.
The crash happened shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of 1700 South and Main Street (state Route 165) in Providence, according to Sgt. Jason Kendrick of the Utah Highway Patrol.
Kendrick said Norma Barriga, of Logan, was traveling north on SR 165 in a Hyundai sedan that turned left in front of a pickup truck traveling south. The truck collided with the passenger side of the sedan and pushed it into another vehicle at the intersection before rolling over onto the southbound shoulder.
Barriga was transported to a hospital in Logan and then airlifted to a hospital in Ogden, where she is listed in “extremely critical condition,” and her son, Andy Barriga, was airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital, where he later died from his injuries on Friday, police said.
UHP said the driver of the pickup truck was taken to a local hospital with broken bones and cuts.
Kendrick said the crash remains under investigation.
