PROVO — Despite the disappointing loss against Utah on Saturday, BYU fans still have a reason to celebrate. Popular LDS rapper Jamesthemormon (James Curran) released a new single Wednesday, “Tellin You Y”, to welcome in BYU’s 2016 football season.

As of Thursday afternoon, the song was currently No. 1 on Jamesthemormon’s iTunes chart and No. 55 on iTunes’ hip-hop Top 100 chart. The music video on YouTube features, not only the BYU football team, but also the BYU marching band, the Cougarettes and Cosmo the Cougar showing off some of his sweet stunts.

Quite a few BYU Hall of Famers also make an appearance in the music video, including 1990 Heisman Trophy winner and current BYU Offensive Coordinator, Ty Detmer, General Manager of the Boston Celtics Danny Ainge, and current and former NFL players Austin Collie, Chad Lewis, Ziggy Ansah, Kyle Van Noy and Tom Holmoe.

Curran, a BYU alum, landed at No. 3 on iTunes’ hip-hop chart in April with his six-track EP “I’m Not a Rapper” and has released several singles since then featuring fellow Mormon musicians Yahosh Bonner and David Archuleta.

“I want the same vibe that people go to get a Drake album or Lil’ Wayne,” Curran told KSL in April. “I want them to walk away uplifted without even realizing it.”

And Curran’s latest single might do just that, especially for BYU fans still nursing some wounds from last week.

“Tellin You Y” can be found on YouTube, iTunes and Spotify.
