Sunia Tauteoli named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah linebacker Sunia Tauteoli was named the Pac-12 defensive Player of the Week Monday.

Tauteoli received the honor in week two of play for his two interceptions, including a pick six on the first play of the game, and six total tackles in Utah’s 20-19 win over in-state rival BYU. Tauteoli’s second interception was a leaping grab after senior defensive end Hunter Dimick broke up BYU quarterback Taysom Hill’s pass.

Tauteoli is the second player of from the University of Utah to be honored this season by the Pac-12. Sophomore punter Mitch Wishnowsky was named the Pac-12 specialist Player of the Week in the first week of play.

Joining Tauteoli in the week’s honors from the Pac-12 are junior running back Kalen Ballage of Arizona State, who had eight total touchdowns (seven rushing and one receiving) in the Sun Devils’ 68-55 win over Texas Tech, and junior Adoree’ Jackson of USC, who returned a punt for a 77-yard touchdown and two tackles on defense in the Trojans’ 45-7 win over Utah State.
