10-year-old girl dies from injuries in utility-task vehicle crash in Cache County

PARADISE, Cache County — A 10-year-old girl died from her injuries Sunday afternoon when the utility task vehicle she was riding in with her 13-year-old brother struck a dumpster on the side of road, according to the Cache County Sheriff's Office.

The girl was transported Logan Regional Hospital, where she died shortly after arrival, the sheriff's office said. Her brother was not injured, officers said.

The siblings were riding in the side-by-side UTV on a public road near 1100 East and 8600 South east of Paradise, according the sheriff's office. Cache County Sheriff's Lt. Mike Peterson said the two were believed to have been wearing seat belts but not helmets.

The UTV apparently left the road, the 13-year-old driver attempted to correct the steering but struck a large trash dumpster on the side of the road, according to the sheriff's office. The 10-year-old, who was the passenger, took the impact of the collision, police said.

The names of the youths were not released Sunday night. The accident remains under investigation.
